I am blessed to be married to a generous man who essentially supports me while I pursue a successful yet poorly paying career as a freelance writer and editor. I am a moderate liberal, but not blindly devoted to any political party. I am smart, but wish I were more creative. I'm a little bit nerdy (maybe a lot), but old enough not to care (at least, not very much.). I am interested in other people, how they perceive the world and the path they took to get to that vantage point. I believe I must be an optimist at heart because otherwise I can't explain why I continue to be surprised and dismayed by the racist, anti-intellectual and generally hateful commentary I often encounter online (it was one such article, a politically biased, factually inaccurate piece that led me to Gather; I joined because I felt I had to comment). I continue to believe that we, the human animals, are evolving to something better; it's just taking longer than I would like.
